The Benefits of Teeth Whitening

At Rosa Dental, we offer many different options for whitening your teeth, including in-office whitening and take-home whitening kits made just for you. If you prefer to purchase a different type, we will give you our opinion on what is most effective.  Please keep in mind that whitening will not work on exposed tooth roots because there is no enamel on them, and it also will not work on crowns or veneers. However, the benefits of whitening your teeth can be great!

Improved Perception

Studies have shown that people with bright, white smiles are seen as more attractive. White teeth can also affect your career positively or negatively. People with beautiful smiles are seen as more successful, and are hired more often. Research has shown that for approximately 60% of new hires, white, healthy teeth played part in how they were positively received.

Greater Confidence

Smiles make people more confident.  Confidence and self-esteem are linked to increased serotonin in the brain. Serotonin helps to suppress your appetite and keep your happier.  Did you ever think that simply having a whiter smile might actually decrease your risk for depression? A healthy, white smile also makes other people feel more relaxed around you, responding more positively to you in social situations.

Younger Looking Appearance

Yellow, discolored teeth is a sign of aging, so people with whiter teeth are seen as younger by up to 10 years! This is because as we age, we lose the outer enamel on our teeth, revealing the natural yellow color of the dentin, which makes up the bulk of the tooth. We are also exposed to more and more things that can dye our teeth such as coffee, tea, fruit, wine, darkly colored soda, and even certain medications such as antihistamines or those for high blood pressure.

Better Hygiene

Once you have whitened your smile, there is an increased desire to keep that smile bright. Our patients who have had their teeth whitened brush more often, for longer periods of time, and floss regularly as well. Many of our patients have chosen this time to quit using tobacco products that have a tendency to stain the teeth as well as cause bad breath.

While a bright smile may seem like a relatively small thing, it can make a big impact in the overall well-being of an individual.
